Recoveries are catalogued objects the pipeline found blind — a validation of the detector. Candidates are unconfirmed and dominated by artifacts until several of them link into a track. Where a branch never ran, the field reads not run — not a negative result. Where the catalogue lookup itself failed, novelty is unchecked: unknown, and never counted as a candidate.
